Troon Welbeck are the 2021 Ayrshire Junior Golf league Champions, following victory in the final match at Irvine (Bogside) on Sunday the 5th of September.
The Troon Welbeck team faced the difficult task on playing a team from the host club in the final, in an evenly match encounter with only a few shots being exchanged throughout the six ties.
Troon Welbeck took the initiative in the early ties, Ayrshire Boys Champion Harvey Broadfoot leading the way with a 3 & 2 win over Ryan Kennedy in the lead tie. Harvey's success was quickly matched by his brother, Jack Broadfoot, with a win by the same margin over Alex Dean.
Callum Black pulled a point back for Irvine with a 7 & 6 win over Noah O'Brien but when Harris Fleming secured a 5 & 4 victory over Elliot O'Brien to win Troon Welbeck's third match point, victory was almost assured due to the countback situation if the match finished 3 - 3.
Both the remaining ties went to the final hole with Euan Stirling ensuring an overall victory for Troon Welbeck by taking the final hole against Aidan Hay to secure a half in his tie, and when the final tie on the course, between irvine's Kyle Reid and Welbeck's Quintin Dunlop, also finished all square, the final match score was a 4 - 2 win for Troon Welbeck, which gave the the league Championship title for the first time since 2013.
The league Championship trophy was handed over to the winning team at the conclusion of the match, by Ayrshire Golf Association Vice President Scott Gilchrist (Loudoun)
