DOC THOM AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT - Latest positions with two events remaining

With just two counting events remaining to be played in the 2019 Ayrshire Order of Merit, for the Doc Thom Salver, the chase for the title remains close.

Scott Brown (Prestwick St Cuthbert) leads the title chase at present, having picked up points in three of the last four counting events, with third place in the Mainholm Cup at Ayr Dalmilling, fourth place at the Troon St Meddans Open and fith spot ain The Ballochmyle Rosebowl.

Steven Stamper (Turnberry) is in second place, just 40 points behind Scott brown, after pickingup points for second place in the Troon St Meddans Open and fifth place in the Mainholm Cup at Ayr Dalmilling.

Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) remains in third place, just 55 points off the top spot, whilst the biggest mover in the table recentl has been Steven Wallace (Prestwick St Cuthbert) who has climbed up to fourth place following a first place finish in the Ballochmyle Rosebowl and a second place in The Viking Krus at Largs.

The two remaining counting events are The Stone Trophy at Largs Routenburn on Saturday 7th September and The Arrol Cup at Prestwick St Nicholas on Saturday 21st September.

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Results update

The Ayrshire Junior Golf League events are progressing to a conclusion, with the finals due to be completed during September.

In Section A of THE AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, Irvine are on top after recent results which included a 4 – 2 win away at Caprington, a 4.5 – 1.5 win at Ballochmyle and a 3 – 3 draw at home to Kilmarnock Barassie.

Irvine have one match remaining to play, at home to Ballochmyle.

Kilmarnock Barassie, with a 4 – 2 home win against Ballochmyle and a 3 – 3 draw in the return fixture, can still overcome Irvine at the top of the table, if they win their remaining two fixtures against Caprington, both home and away.

In Section B of THE AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, Ayr Belleisle have completed all their matches and secured a place in the final, with their last three results being a 3 – 3 draw at home to Loudoun, a 4.5 – 1.5 away win at Troon Welbeck and a 5.5 – 0.5 win in their return match against Loudoun away from home.

In the JUNIOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY, Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle) is through to the final after beating Rob Yorston (Loudoun) in the semi final at Loudoun by 7&5.

The other semi final is between Jamie McKinnon (Caprington) and either Josh Davies (Troon Welbeck) or John Park (West Kilbride).

In the UNDER 16 KNOCKOUT TROPHY competition, Irvine are through to the final after a 3 – 1 home win over Troon Welbeck in the semi final.

The other semi final features Ardeer or Ayr Belleisle against West Kilbride or Prestwick St Nicholas.

In the WALLACE THORNTON TROPHY competition there is no further information regarding the semi finals and their status so far.

SCOTTISH AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS - Ayrshire team announced for Leven

The Ayrshire six man team who will contest the 2019 Scottish Men's Area team Championship over the Leven and Scoonie golf courses in Fife over the weekend of 6th to 8th September has been announced.


the Ayrshire team is a blend of youth and experience, as the county team bid to add to their three previous wins in the competition, the last success being in 2015.

Last year Ayrshire were top qualifiers after the strokeplay rounds and despite being handicapped by the withdrawal of one of the six players, managed to win their quarter final match before losing out narrowly in the semi finals.

Tommy McInally (Loudoun), playing off +2, brings a wealth of experience to the squad, having featured in the winning Ayrshire teams in 2008 and 2015, as well as winning a number of county titles at both junior and senior level.







Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) is the present Ayrshire Strokeplay and Matchplay Champion and is the lowest handicapper in the team with a current handicap of +5.






Steven Wallace (Prerstwick St Cuthbert), playing off +1, has had a fine run of recent results which has prompted his selection this year. he has represented Ayrshire at all levels over the years including a number of appearances in the Area Team Championship team.








Jim Johnston (Ayr Belleisle), with a handicap of +3, brings international experience to the team this year, having gained his first Scotland men's cap at the Home Internationals in 2018.









Performances this year which sees him close to the top of the Ayrshire Order of Merit brings a debut selection for the six man team for +1 handicapper Steven Stamper (Turnberry).











Also in the Area team Championship team for the first time this year is 19 year old Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie), the +2 handicapper having produced a number of notable results over the last twelve months to secure his selection.







The players will complete two strokeplay qualifying rounds over the Leven and Scoone courses on Friday, with the eight teams returning the best team scores progressing to the quarter finals on Saturday morning.

 The quarter finals are matchplay contests comprising one foursomes and four singles ties.

The semi finals, which are the same format as the quarter finals, take place on Saturday afternoon.

The final is scheduled for Sunday, with three foursomes in the morning being followed by six singles in the afternoon.

SCOTTISH GOLF - International selection for Stuart Easton and Paul Moultrie

Stuart Easton (Irvine) and Paul Moutrie (Royal Troon) have been named in the Scotland Men’s and Scotland Senior Men’s teams respectively, for forthcoming international events. 

Stuart Easton will represent Scotland in the men’s Home Internationals at Lahinch GC in Ireland from 11^th to 13^th September.

AYRSHIRE FINALS DAY - Timings for four finals at Skelmorlie GC on Sunday 1st September

With the finalists in the four Ayrshire Golf association extended competitions now known, the timings for the finals at Skelmorlie GC on Sunday 1st September have been confirmed.

The finals will tee off from 1200 Noon with the handicap club team knockout competition for The President's Putter teeing off first, ahead of the Ayrshire Fourball Championship final.

The third final to tee off will be the Handicap League Championship final with the scratch club team knockout competition for the Gary Bryden Memorial Salver starting last of the four finals.

AYRSHIRE HANDICAP LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP - Kilbirnie Place cruise into the final

Kilbirnie Place have secured their place in the final of the 2019 Ayrshire Handicap League Championship, where they will face Ayr Dalmilling at Skelmorlie GC on Sunday 1st September.

Leading 5.5 - 0.5 after the away leg in their semi final against Annanhill, the Kilbirne Place team went even better in the home leg, recording a 6 - 0 win to progress to the final with a 11.5 - 0.5 aggregate winning score.

AYRSHIRE HANDICAP LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP - Ayr Dalmilling secure final place

Ayr Dalmilling have booked their place in the final of the 2019 Ayrshire Handicap League Championship competition.

Already in the final of the President's Putter, the Ayr Dalmilling team had a 4 - 2 win away at Beith in the handicap league semi final last week before beating their visitors 6 - 0 in the return leg at Dalmilling on Sunday 25th August, to go through to the final 10 - 2 on aggregate.

In the first leg of the other semi final Kilbirnie Place recorded a 5.5 - 0.5 away win at Annanhill and will look to secure their place alongside Ayr Dalmilling in the final after the return match at home to Annanhill.

The final of the Ayrshire Handicap league takes place at Skelmorlie GC during Finals day on Sunday 1st September.

PRESIDENT'S PUTTER - Alton face Ayr Dalmilling in the final

The 2019 final of the handicap club team knockout competition for The President's Putter, which takes place on Sunday 1st September at Skelmorlie GC, will feature Alton and Ayr Dalmilling. 

After a 2-1 semi final win over Kilbirnie Place, Alton awaited the winner of the other semi final between Caprington and Ayr Dalmilling which took place at Caprington and resulted in a 2 - 1 win for the visitors.

AYRSHIRE FOURBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - Ardeer and NB Parkstone to contest 2019 final

The final of the 2019 Ayrshire Fourball Championship, which takes place on Sunday 1st September at Skelmorlie GC, will feature Ardeer and NB Parkstone.

Frank Grant & Hugh Wales (Ardeer) beat their visitors Alan Glass & Andy Dunlop (Prestwick St Cuthbert) in their semi final by 3 & 1 to set up the final meeting with Stuart Wilson & James Mason (NB Parkstone) who beat James Clark & Paul Robertson (Wallacetown) by 4&3 in their semi final.

GARY BRYDEN MEMORIAL SALVER - Holders Royal Troon meet Kilmarnock (Barassie) in the final

The final of the 2019 scratch club team knockout competition for the Gary Bryden Memorial Salver on Sunday 1st September at Skelmorlie will feature the defending champions Royal Troon and near neighbours Kilmarnock (Barassie).

Royal Troon booked their place in the final with a 2.5 - 0.5 win away to Ayr Belleisle whilst Kilmarnock Barassie beat their visitors from Troon Welbeck by 2 - 1 in the other semi final.

SCOTTISH MENS' OPEN STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - joint fifth finish for Stuart Easton at The Duke's

Stuart Easton (Irvine) finished tied fifth in the Scottish Mens’ Open Strokeplay Championship at the Duke’s, St Andrews, played from 23^rd to 25^th August.

Opening rounds of 69 and 74 saw Easton safely make the half way cut and he closed with two rounds of 68 for a five under par total of 279, leaving him seven shots adrift of the winner Jake Bolton (Ogbourne Downs GC) from England.

The half-way cut fell at 145, three over par, and the five other Ayrshire players in the field failed to make the cut mark.

Jack Broun (Turnberry) had rounds of 70 and 76 to miss the cut by a single shot whilst Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle) followed an opening round of 75 with a second round 72 to miss the cut by two shots

Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie) had rounds of 72 and 76 to finish three off the cut mark, whilst rounds of 80 and 73 left Sandy Buchanan (Prestwick St Nicholas) well off the pace at the half way stage on 11 over par.

The other Ayrshire player in the field who missed the cut was Jim Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) who finished 14 over par after opening rounds of 82 and 74.
