LYTHAM TROPHY - Good start by Smyth at Royal Lytham & St Annes

Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) made a good start to his bid for the Lytham Trophy on Friday with a 2 over par 72 leaving him in joint fifth place, just four shots off the lead.

SGU AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - Ayrshire team for Crail announced.

Despite Scottish Golfer Of The Year Jack McDonald being unavailable due to university exams, a strong Ayrshire team has been announced for the 2013 SGU Area Team Championship, which takes place at Crail on 18th and 19th May.

The six man team is headed by Former Scottish Boys Strokeplay winner and Scottish internationalist Steven McEwan (Loudoun).

Also included is the 2011 Scottish Boys Champion and the winner of both the county Strokeplay and Matchplay titles in 2012, David Wilson (Troon Welbeck).

Former Ayrshire Matchplay and Champion Of Champions trophy winner Scott Brown (Turnberry) has also been named in the side along with 2010 Scottish Mid Amateur Champion Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle).

John Shanks (Irvine) who along with Steven McEwan was in the side when Ayrshire last won the Area Team Championship title in 2008 is once again included in the Ayrshire side, as is Ewan McKinnon (Corrie) who is making his debut in the event.

AYRSHIRE MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Revised first round matches

As a result of two withdrawals, there has been alteration to two of the first round matches in the 2013 Ayrshire Matchplay Championship, which is scheduled to be played at Prestwick St Nicholas GC from Monday 6th to Thursday 9th May.

The withdrawal of Malcolm Pennycott (Whiting Bay) and John Shanks (Irvine) means that the new Strokeplay Champion Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Nicholas) will play clubmate Kevin Brock in round one whilst Steven Stamper (Girvan) now faces Darren Mallinson (Irvine Ravenspark).

AYRSHIRE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - McKenzie books his place in round 3

Iain McKenzie (Largs Routenburn) is through to round 3 of the 2013 Ayrshire Champion Of
Champions Trophy competition.

In a second round local derby match at Wes Kilbride against George McKay, McKenzie won through by 2 & 1.

In the last 16, McKenzie will have a home tie against either David Sloan (Doon Valley) or Brian Robertson (Auchenharvie).

AYRSHIRE FOURBALL - Alton see of The Chase to reach the last 16

The Alton pairing of Mick McGowan and Gerry Reid are the second team through to the last 16 of the 2013 Ayrshire Fourball Championship.

In their second round match against John Brodie & Gordon Christie (Chase), away from home, the Alton pairing won through by 3 & 2.

In the last 16 they face an away tie against either Martin Brown & Gary Harris (Malletsheugh) or Robert McMaster & Graham Andrew (Girvan)

GLENMUIR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP - Fox leads qualifiers with Reid and Fleming also through

Ayrshire's Scottish PGA champion Graham Fox headed the 13 qualifiers for the Glenmuir PGA professional championship at De Vere Slaley Hall, Hexham when the Scottish qualifying round was held over the Lansdowne course at Blairgowrie Golf Club, Perthshire on Monday 29th April.

Fox (Clydeway Golf), a former West Kilbride Club Champion and Ayrshire Matchplay title winner, shot a two-under-par 70 to lift the £500 first prize and book his place in the field for the June 11 to 14 tournament.

All the action was in his first 10 holes with birdies at the first, second, nine and 10th, either side of bogeys at the sixth and eighth. He parred the last eight holes.

Alan Reid

Fellow Ayrshireman Alan Reid (West Lothian), who won the Scottish Boys and Scottish Strokeplay championships as a member of Klmarnock (Barassie), collected the £300 runner-up prize with a 71, a round in which he had six birdies - two more than the winner - but a stretch of five bogeys between the seventh and 12th.

Amongst the other qualifiers was Prestwick GC professional David Fleming.

Fraser Mann (Musselburgh), Patrick Walker (Ballumbie Castle) and Ewan Hogarth (Peebles) had to settle for first, second and third reserve placings after being eliminated in a six-man play-off on 76 for the last three qualifying spots.

AYRSHIRE MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Robin bids for county double over his home course

The 2013 Ayrshire Matchplay Championship will be held from Monday 6th to Thursday 9th May at Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club, with the new Strokeplay Champion Stuart Robin bidding for a County title double over his home course.

Holder David Wilson (Troon Welbeck) successfully qualified in second place to defend the title he won 12 months ago over the Western Gailes links.
