As Ayrshire golfers look forward to the forthcoming 2024 season, the Ayrshire Golf Association events calendar has been finalised, with new events for women and girls being introduced this year.
The traditional season's openers in April include the Ayrshire Junior Team Championship which will be held at Kilbirnie Place and the Ayrshire men's Strokeplay Championship which will be hosted by Largs this year.
In May the Ayrshire Men's Matchplay Championship will be contested at Rowallan Castle and the same club will host the inaugural Ayrshire Women's matchplay Championship in late June.
Also in early June, the Ayrshire Women's Strokeplay Championship will be hosted by the historic Prestwick Golf Club.
Early July sees the Ayrshire Club Championship being played at caprington and in mid june the Ayrshire Seniors Championship visits Girvan for the 2024 event.
On the first of August the Ayrshire Boys Championship will be contested at Annanhill, with the inaugural Ayrshire Girls' Championship also being held at the same course that day.
Shortly after the Open Championship takes place over Royal Troon in late July, the Ayrshire Men's Champion of Champions, Ayrshire Women's Champion of Champions and Ayrshire Senior men's matchplay Championship finals will take place at Royal Troon in August, and the Ayrshire Boys' matchplay Championship will be played over it's traditional venue at Prestwick Golf Club.
Finals Day in September, where many of the Ayrshire Golf Association extended comeptitions for the 2024 season will be concluded, will be held at Ballochmyle.
Representative matches in 2024 begin on the 31st of March with the annual boys/youths fixture against the South of Scotland, which thias yyear will be an away fixture at a venue still to be confirmed.
In the Men's Area Team Championship, Ayrshire oepn in may with an away fixture against Argyll & Boute before having home fixtures in June and July against Glasgow and Clackmannanshire respectively, as they bid for a place in the finals weekend in early September at Hilton park GC.
The West of Scotland Under 18 Inter County League finds Ayrshire away to Lanarkshire in May, at home to Dumbartonshire at Ayr Belleisle in June, Away to Glasgow in July, at home in August to Renfrewshire at a venue still to be confirmed, and at home to Stirlingshire at Irvine in September.
In mid September the Ayrshire boys' team will bid for the Scottish Boys' Area Team Championship when the event takes place at Duff House Royal GC, and the season concluded with the West of Scotland A and Youth team matches in September and October.
In addition to the Ayrshire county events in 2024, local golf enthusiasts will have the chance to see some national events visit Ayrshire this coming season.
In April the Under 16 Quadrangular event involving Scotland Wales, Ireland and The Netherlands will be contested between the 3rd and the 5th over the Ayr Belleisle course while the Scottish Boys Open Strokeplay Championship visits irvine Golf Club from the 10th to the 12th of April.
In a busy early season, The Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open Strokeplay Championship takes place from the 19th to the 21st of April at it's traditional host venue of Royal Troon.
On the 12th of July the R & A will hold their 9 hole event final at Royal Troon, and from the 15th to the 17th of July The Junior Open will be contested at Kilmarnock (Barassie), before the eyes of the international golfing community turn again to Royal Troon between the 18th and the 21st of July for the staging of the 152nd Open Championship.
