100 NOT OUT ! - Loudoun member Jim Richmond celebrates birthday milestone in style

Retired Kilmarnock dentist Jim Richmond has just celebrated his 100th birthday in style with several parties over the last few days – at Rugby Park , at Kilmarnock Probus Club, and at Loudoun Gowf Club.
Jim has been a season ticket holder at Rugby Park for many years and rarely misses a home game. As the longest serving supporter of the Club, he was an honoured guest at a dinner held in the Park Hotel for notable former players.

On 21 February this year, the actual day of his birth in 1917, Jim  was the star attraction at the Probus Club lunch in Kilmarnock.

Next day at Loudoun Gowf Club Jim  had to cut yet another birthday cake as the Club celebrated this momentous event in the life of its oldest member.

Club Captain Barry McGougan welcomed over 70 members who came along to share in this happy occasion, and Deputy Lieutenant Frank Donnelly presented Jim with the royal telegram.

Jimmy made a very sincere thank-you speech and John Campbell, Deputy Provost of East Ayrshire, awarded Jim a commemorative present on behalf of East Ayrshire Council.

The cake, baked by Club member Liz Keohone, was then cut and consumed to end a very pleasant event in the annals of Loudoun Gowf Club.

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Largs GC drop out of 2017 competitions

Largs Golf Club have intimated that they will not now be entering the Ayrshire Junior Golf League competitions in 2017.

Although the Junior Academy at the club last year was a great success, with 40 youngsters getting tuition on a weekly basis, the players are considered too young at the moment to play in the AJGL competitions and there are not sufficient experienced juniors at present to participate in the AJGL competitions.

Because of the Largs withdrawal, eleven clubs will now contest the AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP this year, with Section A now featuring Troon Welbeck, Ballochmyle, Ardeer, Irvine, and Ayr Belleisle.

Section B still has six teams -  Turnberry, Kilmarnock (Barassie), Prestwick St Cuthbert, West Kilbride, Caprington and Loudoun.

Irvine now received a bye into round two of the UNDER 16 KNOCKOUT TROPHY competition as a result of the Largs withdrawal.

The revised list of first round ties is :-

West Kilbride Vs. Ballochmyle
Prestwick St Cuthbert Vs. Loudoun
Ayr Belleisle Vs Kilmarnock (Barassie)

In the CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY competition, Blair Fleming (Troon Welbeck) will receive a bye into round two as a result of the Largs withdrawal.

The revised list of first round ties is :-

West Kilbride (Fraser Murray) Vs. Caprington (Jamie McKinnon)
Turnberry Vs. Prestwick St Cuthbert (Shawn McBride)
Loudoun (Elliot Spence) Vs. Kilmarnock Barassie (Robbie Muir)
Ballochmyle Vs. Ayrshire Boys Matchplay Champion (Euan Ferguson)
