AYRSHIRE FOURBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - Quarter final line up confirmed

The 2014 Ayrshire Fourball Championship has reached the quarter final stage.

In the remaining their round matches played this week, former winners George and David McCulloch (Brunston Castle) returned with a 2 & 1 victory on their visit to play Tom Reid & Dougie Ainslie (Stewarton), William McMeikan and Robert Galloway (Turnberry Staff) had an away win by 2 holes over Thomas Alexander & Alex Leishman (Ayr Seafield), Blair Graham & Jamie Bryant (Ardeer) had a 5 & 3 home win over Jim Mitchell & Ian Fisher (Ballochmyle), whilst Hugh Fyfe & Callum Weir (Muirkirk) edged through by one hole at home to Andrew McDonald & Robert Paterson (Auchenharvie 88).

SCOTTISH SENIORS OPEN STROKEPLAY - Brooks takes title

Overnight leader Barry Brooks (Meldrum House) won the Scottish Seniors Open Strokeplay Championship at Bairgowrie on Friday 20 June by a full six strokes.

Brooks carded a final round of 74 for a 213 total.

Ayrshire's two qualifiers for the final round finished well off the pace.

David J Miller (Kilmarnock Barassie) had a final round of 78 for a total of 231 whilst Ricky Gray (Irvine) finished with an 82 for a total of 237.

SCOTTISH SENIORS OPEN STROKEPLAY - Two Ayrshire players survive cut

Two of the five Ayrshire players in the 2014 Scottish Seniors Open Strokeplay, being played at Blairgowrie this week, survived the cut after the opening two rounds of the championship.

The leader after 36 holes is Barry Brooks (Meldrum House_ on 139, after rounds of 70 and 69.

The 36 hole cut fell at 155 and the best placed of the Ayrshire players was former senior internationalist David J Miller (Kilmarnock Barassie) on 153 after rounds of 77 & 76.

The other Ayrshire qualifier for the closing round was Ricky Gray (Irvine) who finished right on the mark on 155 after rounds of 80 & 75.

After his opening 74, Ronnie McLellan (Turnberry) took ten shots more in the second round to miss the cut by three shots on 158, a total matched by his clubmate John Broadfoot (Turnberry) with rounds of 81 & 77.

B J G Bingham (Royal Troon) carded 160 with successive rounds of 80.

AYRSHIRE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY - Bryden sets up quarter final clash with Riddall at Girvan

Turnberry greenkeeper Gary Bryden (Girvan) has secured a home tie in the quarter finals of the 2014 Ayrshire Champion Of Champions Trophy competition against Martin Riddall (New Cumnock).

Bryden travelled away from home in his third round tie, playing Gordon McKelvie (Royal Troon), and secured a 3 & 2 win to move into the quarter finals of the championship.

THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - McDonald bows out in first matchoplay round

Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie), Ayrshire's only qualifier for the matchplay stages of The Amateur Championship being played at Royal Portrush this week, lost out in his first matchplay round on Thursday, at the last 64 stage.

McDonald was beaten 4 & 2 by Paul Barjon of France.

Barjon started in style, taking a two hole lead with successive birdies at the opening holes, and when McDonald had a miserable run of four bogeys and a double bogey from the fifth to the ninth, Barjon was six up on the Ayrshire player at the turn.

McDonald steadied thing a bit on the inward half, a run of three pars from ten through to twelve being enough to win all three holes and reduce the deficit to three.

A bogey from McDonald at the thirteenth allowed Barjon to restore a four hole advantage, but again McDoanld hit back with a birdie two at the fourteenth to reduce Barjon's lead to three again, with four holes remaining.

The players halved the fifteenth in par fours but a bogey from McDonald at the sixteenth allowed Barjon to win the hole with a par four for a 4 & 2 victory.

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Kilmarnock (Barassie) & Irvine lead the way

Kilmarnock (Barassie) have stormed to the top of Section A, in the chase for the 2014 Ayrshire Junior Golf League Championship.

In their opening match of the campaign the Barassie team had a 4 – 2 home win over previously undefeated West Kilbride which they followed with 4.5 – 1.5 away wins over the two Prestwick clubs, St Nicholas and St Cuthbert.

After two good home wins in their opening matches, West Kilbride faultered with their defeat at Kilmarnock (Barassie) and a 5.5 – 0.5 defeat away at Prestwick St Nicholas.

In Section B, Irvine remain at the top of the table, despite defeats by 4.5 – 1.5 away to Loudoun and at home to Ayr Belleisle.

Following their opening match defeat to Ayr belleisle, defending champions Troon Welbeck got their challenge back on track with a 3 – 3 draw away to Caprington and a 5 – 1 win in the corresponding home fixture against the Kilmarnock club.

SCOTTISH SENIORS OPEN STROKEPLAY - McLellan best placed of Ayrshire players after day one

The Scottish Seniors Open Strokeplay Championship is being played this week at Blairgowrie, from the 18th to 20th June, and as Ian Brotherston (Dumfries & County) leads the field by three shots after his opening five under par round of 67, Ronnie McLellan (Turnberry) is the best placed of the five strong Ayrshire contingent taking part after the opening round.

Ronnie Mclellan started with a two over par round of 74 to finish the opening day tied in 18th place.
