SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - McEwan is lone Ayrshire player in quarter finals
SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - Harkins ousts Booth to snatch fourth round spot
Harkins now faces Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh) in the fourth round.
In the other third round tie involving an Ayrshire player completed on Thursday morning, Jamie Mackay (Kilmarnock Barassie) lost to Scott Borrowman (Dollar) by 1 hole.
Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) and Steven McEwan (Caprington), along with Chris Harkins, maintain the Ayrshire interest in the championship as the fourth round progresses today.
SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - 4 Ayrshire players remain for Thursday
Of the remaining first round ties, Cameron Gray (West Kilbride) lost to Ross Kellett (Colville Park) by 3 & 1 whilst Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) negotiated the first round with a 3 & 2 win over Ross McGuire (Dalmahoy) before losing by the same margin in the second round, on Wednesday afternoon, to Gordon Yates (Hilton Park).
Chris Harkins (Ayr Belleisle) had a 2 & 1 first round win over Malcolm Davidson (Craigie Hill) before recording a 4 & 3 win in round 2 against Aaron Howard (Murrayshall)
The last remaining first round tie involving an Ayrshire player saw Ross Dixon (Kilmarnock Barassie) lose by 5 & 3 to Neil McBride (Cowglen).
George Robertson (Irvine Ravenspark) played his second round match on Wednesday, against the 4th seed Gavin dear (Murrayshall) and left the championship after a 2 & 1 defeat. Also out went Robertson's clubmate John Cairney (Irvine Ravenspark) who lost by 4 & 3 to Philip Mclean (Peterhead).
Despite his extra time win in round 1, Ewan McKinnon (Corrie) lost out in the second round, being beaten 2 holes by Donald Ballantyne (Selkirk).
Jamie Mackay (Kilmarnock Barassie) was the victor in the all Ayrshire second round tie, beating John Shanks (Irvine) by one hole, to set up a tie against Scott Borrowman (Dollar) in the next round.
Steven McEwan (Caprington) followed his first round 6 & 5 win by defeating the newly crowned Boys Strokeplay Champion Mark Bookless (Sandyhills) by a similar margin. McEwan then went on to beat Donald Ballantyne (Selkirk) by 5 & 4 to reach round four.
Also through to the fourth round is sixth seed Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) who followed a morning 3 & 2 win over John Goodward (McDonald) with a 5 & 4 win over Andrew Wallace (Glenbervie).
With the championship still playing 'catch up' after weather delays earlier in the week and play suspecded due to bad light at 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday, the remaining third round matches will hopefully be completed tomorrow, as well as the fourth round ties.
Jamie Mackay's game with Scott Borrowman is still to be completed, with the winner facing either Michael main (Thornton) or Steven Buchan (Royal Aberdeen).
Chris Harkins' game against Wallace Booth (Comrie) is also to be completed, with the winner facing either Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh) or Stuart McKendrick (Dunkeld & Birnam) in round 4.
Michael Stewart is due to tee off at 0934 in his fourth round match whilst Steven McEwan plays off at 0942 on Thursday.

McKinnon opened with a two-under 69 which leaves him in joint second place amongs the players who managed to complete their first round.
Former European Tour player Andrew Sherborne, and Will Barnes from the Lichfield are joint leaders on 68.

SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Robertson and Stewart through as three Ayrshire players exit championship
John Sloan (Doon Valley) lost out by 3 & 1 against Ian Thomson (Powfoot), whilst David Addison (Kilmarnock Barassie) was beaten 2 & 1 by 8th seed Scott Henry (Cardross).
The other defeated Ayrshire player was Keith Hamilton (Ayr Belleisle) who was beaten 5 & 4 by defending champion John Gallagher (Swanston New).
Better news came from George Robertson (Irvine Ravenspark) who won by two holes against John McMahon (Cardross). Robertson now faces the 4th seed, Gavin Dear (Murrayshall) in the second round on Tuesday.
6th seed Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) ws a 3 & 2 winner against Gordon Miller (Cawder) and now plays John Godward (McDonald) in the second round.

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Opening shock for holders of Wallace Thornton Trophy title.
In the other fixture played in the section so far, Kilbirnie had a 3.5 - 0.5 home win over Largs.
In Section 2, Belleisle opened with a 3 - 1 win at Ravenspark, whilst West Kilbride are setting the pace with two 3 - 1 home wins against Ravenspark and Ballochmyle.

In Section A, all New Cumnock results were discarded after the East Ayrshire side defaulted on two matches during the campaign.
A recent 5.5 - 0.5 home win over Kilbirnie secured West Kilbride the top spot and a place in the last four, by virtue of points difference.

American Bruce Vaughan beat fellow contryman John Cook in a play off for the title with a 6 under par total of 284, whilst Drummond shot a final round of 76 for a 299 total.

BOYS HOME INTERNATIONALS - Two Ayrshire players named in Scotland team
AYRSHIRE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY - Semi Final line up completed
In the quarter finals, 2006 winner Brian Moore (Largs) beat Fraser Lawrie (West Kilbride) by 7 & 6 and now faces a semi final clash with Alex Gourlay (Irvine) who defeated Nick Tindall (Tam O Shanter) by 3 & 2 in the last eight.
The other semi final features Paul Moultrie (Troon Portland) and George Robertson (Irvine Ravenspark) who reached the last four by defeating clubmate and trophy holder John Cairney.
The first of the semi finals are due to tee off at 5.00 p.m., and spectators are welcome to attend.
The final of the competition is scheduled to take place at Royal Troon the following Friday, 8th August, again with a 5.00 p.m. tee off.
AYRSHIRE SUMMER LEAGUE - Troon Welbeck grab last semi final place
Troon Welbeck now face a semi final clash with League 2 winners Kilmarnock (Barassie), with Welbeck due to be at home in the first leg.
The other semi final features the winners of Leagues 3 & 4, Irvine Ravenspark and Caprington respectively. Ravenspark, the 2007 finalists, are due to be at home in the first leg.
All semi final matches are due for completion by the end of August.
THE SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - Drummond remains top sScot after round 2
Drummond shot a second round 76, five over par on the day, for a championship total of 148, six over par. Drummond finished his second round in style, playing a superb approach which came to rest about a foot from the hole to set up a closing birdie.
Bruce Vaughan (USA) leads the championship on 139, three under par.
The cut after round 2 fell at 152, 10 over par, which saw the exit of the other two players who provided a local interest, Sam Torrance who shot a second round of 81 for 154 and Bill Lockie who had 86 on day two, for a 165 total.
Drummond tees of at 1112 hrs on saturday, alongside former Ryder Cup Captain mark James (England).

SCOTTISH BOYS STROKEPLAY - Stewart third as Bookless wins title
Stewart trailed by 6 after the second round but a third round of 70 took him to within a shot of Bookless, who had led the tournament from day one. Stewart never got any closer however, and a closing 74, his worst round of the week, put Stewart into third place on 287, five behind Bookless and 4 behind Binning.
Next best Ayrshire player was Kle Smith (Kilmarnock Barassie) who finished with a 77 for a 296 total.

SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - Drummond shares leading Scot distinction after round 1
Ross Drummond from Prestwick shares the diStinction of being top Scot after the first round of the 2008 Senior Open Championship being played at Royal Troon this week, after shooting a one over par 72 on Thursday.
Scottish amateur John Fraser also returned a 72 to match Drummond's score, with both players lying 4 shots behind the leaders.

SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - Local interest tee times
Prestwick resident Ross Drummond tees of at 0840 alongside two of the most famous players in the game. Drummond's playing partners on Thursday will be Japanese legend Isao Aoki, of the unorthodox putting stance, and the even more legendary South African winner of all four 'Majors', Gary Player.
Sam Torrance, who grew up in Largs, tees off at 1350 alongside former US Open Champion Tom Kite and well known Argentinian Eduardo Romero.
At 1430, Bill Lockie (North Gailes) begins his championship bid alongside Irish amateur Adrian Morrow and South African Bobby Lincoln.

CALLAWAY/AUDI PGA TOURNAMENT - Lomas continues good form at Lanark
Former Walker Cup player Lindsay Mann led the way after the first round on six under par 64, with Lomas just one shot behind overnight after shooting 65.
Jim McKinnon (Irvine) is also well placed after an opening round of 72, two over par.

GIRLS HOME INTERNATIONALS - McQueen named in Scotland team
THE SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - Lockie carries Ayrshire flag on in final qualifying.
Whilst Drummond and Torrance were exempt from the traumas of the qualifying events, Lockie, who won the Seniors PGA Championship earlier in the year, was 7th qualifier of 15 at Dundonald, returning 75 to be one shot behind the leading qualifying score of 74.
The qualifying axe at Dundonald fell at 78, with one from four qualifying. Ayrshire amateurs Allan Thomson (82) from Ayr Belleisle, Bert Ferguson (83) from Royal Troon and Ronnie McLellan from Turnberry (86) all failed in their efforts to qualify.
At Glasgow Gailes, the qualifying score was 77 with 4 from 12 on that mark making it into the championship. Turnberry amateur John Broadfoot was the only local interest at Glasgow Gailes but failed in his efforts with a score of 86.
Three local amateurs were bidding for a qualifying place at Western Gailes where the cut fell at 76, two from three on that score making it through. David Miller from Kilmarnock Barassie just failed in his quest, with a 78, as did his clubmate Robbie Fulker (80) and Prestwick St. Nicholas member John Ashton (86).

SOUTH AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF PRE HANDICAP TOURNAMENT - closing date for entries approaching
The succesful South Ayrshire Junior Golf Pre-handicap Open was introduced a few years ago and is open to all boys and girls aged 8 years and over and under the age of 18 who have not yet achieved an official golf handicap.
The competition is played from specially installed forward junior tees on Troon Fullarton Golf Course with boys and girls playing from the same tees.
The emphasis of this competition is participation and as such a goody bag will be given to each competitor rather than having a prize list and only rewarding those who score well.

The Pre handicap Junior open will be held on the day before the Tom Lehman Trophy competition, which takes place on Tuesday 5th August.

WEST OF SCOTLAND UNDER 18 INTER COUNTY LEAGUE - Second win of the year for Ayrshire as they defeat Dumbarton
Ayrshire’s Under 18 Team built on their recent fine win against Lanarkshire by defeating Dunbartonshire 5 – 3 in Sunday’s match at Prestwick St Cuthbert.
The match was a rollercoaster affair with Ayrshire building up a strong early position in the match before Dunbartonshire turned the tables, leaving the home team to mount a late fighback to earn an important victory.
In the opening matches, Marc Smith and David Wilson were both unable to hold onto early leads and slid to disappointing 3 &2 defeats. Fraser Kerr shrugged aside a couple of recent defeats to record a fine 2 hole victory with Jack McDonald continuing his recent good form with an excellent 3&2 win over Gary Meechan.
Scott Brown produced a blistering start by winning the first five holes in his 5&4 win before Andrew Wright tasted defeat in his encounter with Fraser McKenna. With Dunbartonshire beginning to look favourites, Colin Robinson and Adam Foley showed great character under pressure to produce crucial victories against Tom Sharkey and John Henry respectively.

With the first days strokeplay qualifying round abandoned duue to the weather, Scotland failed to make the top flight for the matchplay stages and some indifferent results in the matchplay left Scotland in mid table after the conclusion of the championship.

OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - Lomas in final qualifying success
Lomas tied for third place with three other players, on 3 over par, and was one of the two who subsequently won the right to a place in the Open Championship next week.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION - Summer League latest
In recent fixtures, Belleisle drew 3 - 3 with Welbeck at home and had a 4 - 2 home win over Moorpark, also at Belleisle.
Welbeck maintained a share of the lead with a 4.5 - 1.5 home win over Annanhill, who had travelled to Moorpark in their ptrevious match and recorded a 6 - 0 win.

The only two results recently from LEAGUE 3 saw Ardeer winning by 4 - 2 at Ballochmyle, whilst they were edged out by 3.5 - 2.5 by the visitors, Irvine (Bogside).
