AYRSHIRE HANDICAP LEAGUE - Ayr Dalmilling win inaugural title

Ayr Dalmilling are the first winners of the Ayrshire Handicap League after defeating Rowallan Castle in a close final at Loudoun Gowf Club on Sunday 3rd September.

The two teams topped their respective qualifying sections before winning through in a two leg semi final against Auchenharvie 88 and Ballochmyle respectively

In the final, Andrew Lindsay got Ayr Dalmilling off to a great start in the lead tie, with a 3 & 2 win over Ruan McMillan and Adam Cambers gave the Ayr club a 2 - 0 lead with a 2 & 1 win over Graham Gardiner in the second tie.

Glen Wilson and Andy Macleod fought out what ultimately proved to be a crucial half in the third tie before Craig Hutchinson pulled a point back for Rowallan castle with a 1 hole win over Gerard Mullen. In the anchor tie, Graeme Telfer had a 4 & 2 win over Tony McCurdie to bring the match score back to 2.5 - 2.5, leaving the destination of the inaugural title depending on the result of the final tie on the course.

The final tie, between Alex MacNeil of Rowallan Castle and Alan Purvis of Ayr Dalmilling was closely fought throughout, but it was McCurdie who edged a single hole victory on the final green to secure the winning point for Ayr Dalmilling in a 3.5 - 2.5 match win.
