33 Ayrshire players will line up amongst the 254 competitors when the 2007 Scottish Amateur Championship is played at Prestwick Golf Club, from 30th July to 4th August.
The 2007 Championship will be the 8th occasion that the Scottish Amateur has been played at Prestwick, the last being in 1998 when Graeme Rankin was the winner.
Prestwick has historically been a happy hunting ground for local players in the championship with John Wilson (Prestwick St. Nicholas) - 1931, Hammy McInally (Ardeer/Irvine) - 1939, Cammy Gibson (Prestwick St. Cuthbert) - 1950, Dick Smith (Selkirk/Prestwick) - 1958 all winning over the historic links, whilst the 1979 winner at Prestwick, Keith Mcintosh (Cardross), now plays his golf there too.
Ayrshire will be assured of at least 5 players in the second round, with 5 all Ayrshire first round matches scheduled.
