The 70 year old, a long time member of the Ayr Dalmilling club, posted a superb nett score of 61 off his 25 handicap, to win the title by a full four shots from his nearest rival, Steven Browning (Troon St Meddans).
There was however some drama, with around an hour and three quarters of play remaining when play was suspended and players came off the course following a localised thunder storm passing over the course.
Officials suspended play for forty five minutes and fortunately in that time the storm moved away and the players were able to resume their rounds and the championship was successfully concluded.
The best scratch score of the day was posted by Alistair Belford (Prestwick St Nicholas) with a superb round of 69.
There were three age group categories, with the successful prizewinners in each being :-
There were two nearest the pin prizes, at the eighth and sixteenth holes, and both were won by David Brown (Irvine Ravenspark) with tee shots to 209 mm and 124 mm respectively.
