SCOTTISH BOYS & GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPS - Jack Broun keeps boys hopes alive whilst Ayrshire are guaranteed a girls quarter finalist

Jack Broun (Ayr Belleisle) kept hopes Ayrshire hopes alive in the Scottish Boys Championship at Moray Golf Club after completion of the first two rounds of matchplay on Wednesday 4th July.

In the morning round Broun overcame the challenge of Rory Cromarty (Nairn) with a 3&2 victory to progress to the last thirty two where he played Patrick Norris (Bothwell Castle), the son of former Scottish internationalist Fiona Norris and nephew of professional and former Curtis Cup player Mhairi McKay. In a close match, jack Broun won through by 2 & 1 to progress to the last sixteen where he will face Evan Orr (Newmachar) on Thursday morning.

Second top qualifier Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle) had a comfortable 4&3 victory over Finlay Copland (Dumfries & Galloway) in the first round of matchplay and led Lewis Irvine (Kirkhill) in the latter stages of his second round match before eventually losing out on the first extra hole of their last 32 encounter.

The other Ayrshire player who qualified for the matchplay, Cameron Johnstone (Troon Welbeck) was unlucky to exit in the opening round of matchplay, losing out on the first extra hole to Connor Wilson (Castle Park).

Louise Duncan & Rachel Foster

In the Scottish Girls Championship, also being played at Moray Golf Club this week, Ayrshire are guaranteed a representative in the quarter finals following the opening round of matchplay on Wednesday.

Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) beat Eilidh henderson (Loretto School) by 2 & 1 in her opening tie, and a 6&4 victory by Rachel Foster (Prestwick St Nicholas) over Rachel Mathieson (Hazlehead) in her opening tie set up an all Ayrshire tie between Duncan and Foster in the last sixteen, to guarantee an Ayrshire interest in the last eight on Thursday afternoon.
