THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Stuart Easton through to last 32 at Royal Aberdeen

Stuart Easton (Irvine) is through to the last 32 in the Amateur Championship, being held this week at Royal Aberdeen and Murcar Links.

Over the strokeplay qualifying rounds on Monday and Tuesday, Easton secured a place in the matchplay, finishing in joint 40th place on 146 (+5) after rounds of 73 & 73.

Ayrshire's other player in the field, Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) missed the cut by two shots after rounds of 79 & 70 gave him a total of 149.

There was further Ayrshire interest in the matchplay stages with Australian Ben Ferguson, who has family in Ayrshire and is a member of Turnberry, qualified in joint 25th place on 145 (+4) after rounds of 73 & 72.

The matchplay commenced on Wednesday 20th June but Ferguson had an early exit, going down by two holes to Malcolm Mitchell of South Africa in his opening tie.

Stuart Easton fared better however, securing a place in the last 32 with a one hole victory over Will Heffernan of Australia.

In the next round of matchplay on Thursday, Easton will play England's Mitch Waite from Filton GC.
