AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Irvine win Wallace Thornton Trophy whilst Loudoun take Under 16 title

The first two of the four Ayrshire Junior Golf League finals for 2014 were held at Prestwick St Nicholas GC on Sunday 14th September, with the teams from Irvine and Loudoun emerging victorious in the Wallace Thornton Trophy and Under 16 Knockout Trophy events respectively.

The first competition on the course was the scratch championship for the Wallace Thornton Trophy, where Irvine GC faced host club Prestwick St Nicholas.

The first two ties out featured Scotland internationalist Stuart Easton and Ayrshire Boys Champion Jack Thomas for Irvine against Graeme Greer and Connor Brooke respectively, and both these ties were to prove close throughout, the results of which were decided on the final green.

Scott Howat, in the final tie on the course, got the first point on the board for Irvine with a 6 & 5 win over Connor McIntosh, and Ross McDonald made it 2 - 0 for Irvine shortly afterwards with a 4 & 3 win over Tom Nairn.

The first two ties both finished in victory for the Irvine players by a single hole, giving Irvine GC the Wallace Thornton Trophy with a 4 - 0 winning score overall.

Under 16 Knockut Trophy finalists
Loudoun & Ballochmyle
In the Under 16 Knockout Trophy, Loudoun faced Ballochmyle in the final.

Elliot Spence got the Loudoun team off to the perfect start with a 7 & 6 win over Declan Chalmers in the lead tie and the Loudoun lead was extended to 2 - 0 following Rob Yorston's 3 & 2 win over Shaun Houston.

Loudoun confirmed their trophy win with a 3 & 2 win for Robert Browning over Mark Watson in the last tie out, and the Loudoun clubs dominance of the match was confirmed when Greg Hampshire beat Adam Carballo by one hole in the remaining tie to give Loudoun a 4 -- 0 victory overall.

At the conclusion of both finals, the trophies were handed over to the winning teams by League Chairman John Stobie (Prestwick St Nicholas).

The finals of the Champion Of Champions Trophy and the League Championship take place at Prestwick St Nicholas on Sunday 21st September.
