Ayrshire had just two qualifiers for the matchplay stages of the Scottish Seniors Matchplay Championship, being held at Southerness this week, following the strokeplay qualifying rounds.

David Miller (Kilmarnock Barassie) qualified in fourth place whilst former finalist in the event, Ricky Gray (Irvine) was also one of the 32 qualifiers.

On Wednesday 16 July, the matchplay rounds commenced but despite his efforts in the qualifying rounds, David Miller bowed out of the championship following a 3 & 2 defeat in the opening round by Scottish Senior Internationalist Bob Stewart (Tulliallan).

Ricky Gray progressed to the last sixteen with a 4 & 3 win over William Erskine (Kilsyth lennox)

In the Super Seniors competition, for players aged 65 and over, Ayrshire also had two qualifiers for the eight places available, in Keith Howie (West Kilbride) who qualified in third spot, and John Broadfoot (Turnberry).

In the first round of matchplay on Wednesday 16 July, both Ayrshire players progressed to the semi finals.

John Broadfoot had a walkover against Ian Peddie (Tulliallan), whilst Keith Howie beat Donald Shamash (Kirkcudbright) by 2 & 1.
