AYRSHIRE SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP - Late retiral present for West Kilbride's Allan Merry

 Allan J Merry (West Kilbride) is the new Ayrshire Seniors Champion after he took the Sandty Provan Trophy at Prestwick St Cuthbert GC on Tuesday 15th July, by virtue of the better inward half over two other competitors, with a nett score of four under par 67.


Allan, who retired only a few weeks ago, got a perfect retiral present with his first win in a county event.

a good field of over 65 competitors enjoyed very nice weather, with a little breeze, which made the Prestwick St Cuthbert course just that little bit more testing. The course condition was excellent and drew many favourable comments from participants.

Derek Gemmell (Ayr Dalmilling) returned the best scratch score of the day, his two over par 73 edging out Sammy Cox (Loudoun) by virtue of the better inward half.

The two players who Allan Merry edged out to win the main trophy, Iain R Lamb (Irvine) and R.S. Arthur (West Kilbride), had the consolation of winning the first prize in the 55 - 62 and 63 - 69 age categories respectively, whilst the oldest competitor in the field, 80 year old Houston Sim (Annanhill) took first place in the over 70's age category.

At the conclusion of the days play, Ayrshire Golf Association Presidetn Milton Murray presented prizes to the successful players present and handed over the Sandy Provan Trophy to the 2014 winner, Allan Merry.
