Nine year old Ruben Lindsay of Ayr Belleisle and Troon Welbeck continued his successful year by winning the Boys 9 - 10 age group at the Wee Wonders Open Golf Championship 2013.

The Grand Final was played on 24 and 25 August 2013 over 36 holes on the Strathtyrum course at St Andrews.

134 finalists played in the championship in various age categories for players 12 years old and under.

Ruben played some excellent golf in relatively benign weather conditions over both days, with the course set up with some tough flag positions on characteristic undulating greens.

With excellent scores of 72 & 70 for a 4 over par total of 142, Ruben took the title for the 9 - 10 age group by virtue of the better second round after a tie with Rory McDonald O'Brien.

The championship was very competitive, with 6 players within 2 strokes of the lead score of 70 after the opening round. After 3 bogeys and a birdie in the first 6 holes of the second round, Ruben settled into his game and covered the remaining twelve in one under par to record a closing round of 70, to take the title by virtue of the best second round.

Following his win, Ruben gains an automatic invitation to the 2014 Junior World Championships to be held in Pinehurst, North Carolina in August 2014, which follows the European Championships, being held in Scotland next May.

Ruben's has a couple of major events remaining this season, following a win in the qualifiers for the Paul Lawrie Foundation U10 Grand Final, and also qualification for the Stephen Gallacher Foundation U14 Grand Final which will be held in September and October this year.
