SCOTTISH GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP - Jaffrey carries Ayrshire hopes into quarter finals

Girls internationalist Connie Jaffrey (Troon ladies) carries Ayrshire hopes into the quarter finals of the championships at Ranfurly Castle GC, following the first two rounds of matchplay on Thursday 18 July.

The other three Ayrshire players who qualified for the championship matchplay stages, who were also from the Troon ladies club, all lost in the first round of the matchplay on Thursday morning.

Katie Mcgarva lost to Lesley Atkins (Gullane) by 4 & 2, Emma hale was beaten 3 & 2 by Eilidh Watson (Muckhart) whilst Hazel McGarvie lost out by 3 & 2 to Joanne Free (Gullane).

Connie Jaffrey beat Alexandra Quayam (Ranfurly Caslte) by 1 hole in the morning before booking her quarter final place with a 5 & 3 win over Eva O'Connor (Bothwell Castle) in the afternoon.

In the quarter finals on Friday morning, Jaffrey faces Lauren White (St Regulus) for a place in the semi final, with the winner due to play either Lesley Atkins (Gullane) or Nicola Robertson (Dunblane new).

In the second flight competition for the Ainsley Reid Salver, Ayrshire's only qualifier, lauren Gilbert (Largs) lost out at the 20th hole in her first round tie against Heather McKimmie (Balmore)
