EUROPEAN MENS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - McDonald helps Scots secure championship showdown with 'The Auld Enemy'

Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) has helped the Scotland mens team secure a showdown with ‘The Auld Enemy’, England, in the final of the European Mens Team Championship on Saturday, 13 July 2013, at Silkeborg Golf Club in Denmark.

Scotland qualified for the top flight of match play earlier in the week in fifth place.
 
James Ross (Royal Burgess) was Scotland's top scorer over the two qualifying rounds, scoring 72-71 for 143.Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie) shot 72-74 for 146, whilst Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) scored 74 & 76 for 150, Bradley Neil (Blairgowre) 75 & 77 for 153, Ewan Scott (St Andrews) 78 & 75 for 153 and Scott Borrowman (Dollar) 79 & 77 for 156.


The final qualifying positions were :-

743 - England, Germany
744 - Scotland
752 - Denmark
756 - Netherlands
758 - Austria


SECOND FLIGHT
758 - Portugal
759 - Spain, Switzerland.
761 - Wales.

776 - Italy


In the quarter final matches on Thursday, Scotland faced fourth qualifiers Germany and won through to the semi final play offs with a 4 – 3 win.

Jack McDonald won his foursomes match with Graeme Robertson but lost out by 4 & 3 in his afternoon singles.

In the semi finals on Friday, Scotland faced top qualifiers France for a place in Saturday’s final.

Jack McDonald again combined with Graeme Robertson for a win as Scotland took the morning foursomes 2 – 0 , and McDonald added a further half point in the afternoon singles as Scotland secured the win by 4.5 – 2.5 and a final showdown with England who saw off Netherlands by 6 – 1 to book their final spot.
