EUROPEAN BOYS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - Disappointment for Scots after bright start

After a bright start in the competition, Scotland’s bid for the European Boys Team Championship at Murcar Links this week faultered in the quarter finals against Norway on Thursday and suffered a further setback against Ireland on Friday, leaving a best finish of seventh place at stake if they can bounce back to beat Sweden in the last round of matches on Saturday.

With Ayrshire’s Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) in the team, Scotland stormed into the top flight of the Matchplay stages in third spot with Walker contributing a 72 in the first round and a 73 in the second round to the Scotland total of 721

This left the quarter final line up as :- Italy v Sweden, France v Denmark, Scotland v Norway & England v Ireland.

In the quarter finals on Thursday things were looking good for Scotland after the opening foursomes with Walker in action as the home side took a 2 – 0 lead over Norway.

Things turned sour for the Scots side in the afternoon singles, defeat in four of the five ties sending Scotland crashing to a 4 – 3 defeat.

Syme lost to Viktor Hovland at the 20th
Hill beat Reitan by 3 & 1
MacIntyre lost to Johannsen by 3 & 2
Walker lost to Venture by 4 & 3

On Friday, Scotland faced Ireland in the hope of securing fifth spot overall, but again suffered disappointment. With only one foursomes and four singles to play, Euan Walker was selected for the foursomes with Ewen Ferguson but lost narrowly by one hole as the scots lost out to ireland by 3.5 – 1.5 overall.
