All of the top seven finishers in the 72-hole international students' tournament for the Boyd Quaich over the Old and New Courses at St Andrews were filled by Scots this week.

A former Schools Internationalist, Macneal represented the University of Louisville, Kentucky in the bid for the Boys Quaich, and won the trophy by the unusually large margin of seven shots, with an eight-under-par total of 278, made up of New-Old-New-Old rounds of 69-66-72-71.

Joint runners-up were Jordon McColl from Dundee, a student at Lander University, West Carolina, and Angus Carrick (Stirling University)

Jordon had scores of 70-69-77-69 for 285. That third-round 77 over the New Course  cost him second place on his own.

Carrick scored 70-71-73-71.

Steven Smith, a former Lothians boys champion from Kirknewton, finished fourth on 286. Smith is a student at Western Carolina University.

Greg Smail (Craigielaw), joint ninth in the Cameron Corbett Vase at Haggs Castle over the weekend, finished fith on 287 in the Boyd Quaich. He is a student at Louisiana-Monroe.

Joshua Jamieson from St Andrews, the 2011 Scottish boys open stroke-play champion who has just completed his first year at Northwestern University, Illinois - that's where Luke Donald was a student,  finished joint sixth on 292 with Calum Hill (Western New Mexico) from Perth.

Hill had an 81 over the New Course in his third round, a 10-over-par score that probably cost him second or third place.
