SCOTTISH OPEN STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - McDonald leads Scots challenge at Southerness

Ayrshire's Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) is joint leading Scot in the chase for the Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship title, which is being contested at Southerness GC this weekend.

McDonald lies joint 10th at the half way stage on 143 (+5) after rounds of 71 & 72, leaving him six shots adrift of championship leader Garrick Porteous (Bamburgh Castle GC) who is on 137 (-1) after rounds of 68 & 69.

The only other Ayrshire player to make the cut, right on the mark of 148, was Charlie Macneil (Prestwick) with rounds of 73 & 75 for a 10 over part total.

The other Ayrshire players involved in the first two rounds, but who never made the cut for the remaining two rounds on Sunday, were :-

151 - Steven Spence (Irvine) 74/77 (+13)
152 - Kenny Macaskill (Turnberry Staff) 75/77 (+14)
153 - Malcolm Pennycott (Whiting Bay) 77/76 (+15)
153 - Scott Brown (Turnberry) 76/77 (+15)
154 - Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) 74/80 (+16)
155 - Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) 78/77 (+17)
158 - James Bunch (Prestwick) 79/79 (+20)
166 - David Wilson (Troon Welbeck) 80/86 (+28)

The final two rounds will be played on Sunday 2nd June.
