AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - competition updates

The various Ayrshire Junior Golf League competitions are now well under way for the 2013 season.

In the UNDER 16 KNOCKOUT, Troon Welbeck and Largs had walkovers in round one against Caprington and Ballochmyle respectively, leaving the present position in the quarter finals as :-

AYR BELLEISLE Vs WEST KILBRIDE

LOUDOUN Vs IRVINE or KILMARNOCK BARASSIE

LARGS Vs TROON WELBECK

PRESTWICK ST CUTHBERT Vs PRESTWICK ST NICHOLAS

All quarter final ties to be completed by 4th August.

in the CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY competition, the draw for the quarter finals was made this week, after all the first round matches were completed.

In the opening round, Ayrshire Boys Matchplay winner Greg telfer had a one hole win at Prestwick St Cuthbert against Stuart Easton (Irvine). Aidan Dore (Loudoun) also edged through to the last eight with a final green win at home to the Andrew Davidson (Ballochmyle), winning by 2 holes.

Jordan Sweeney (Ayr Belleisle) had a walkover in round 1 after Ayrshire Boys Champion Euan Walker withdrew as he would be studying abroad by the time of the final whilst Sandy Walker (Ardeer) had an away win , at the first extra hole, against Calum Nairn (Prestwick St Nicholas) to go through to the quarter finals.

With Jamie McNair (Caprington) and Darren Nimmo (Prestwick St Cuthbert) getting byes into the last eight, the final two spaces were secured by Murray McCrone (Troon Welbeck), with a 4 & 3 home win over Euan Jack (West Kilbride), and Euan Henderson (Kilmarnock Barassie) who had the biggest win of the round with a 7 & 6 win at home to Hamish Mills (Largs)

In the LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, title holders Prestwick St Cuthbert crashed to a 5 - 1 defeat at Troon Welbeck in their opening match in Section A.

Troon Welbeck lead the way in the section, adding a 4 - 2 home win over Caprington to their win over St Cuthbert, whilst Kilmarnock Barassie lie second equal with Caprington following a 3 - 3 draw at Caprington and a 5 1/2 - 1/2 win in the return match at Barassie, whilst caprington scored their first win of the campaign with a 6 - 0 result at home to Ballochmyle.

In their only match played so far, 2012 runners up Irvine had a notable 4 - 2 win away to Kilmarnock Barassie.

In Section B, Loudoun lead the way with four home wins from four matches played, opening with a 4 - 2 defeat of Largs followed by a 6 - 0 win over Prestwick St Nicholas, a 3.5 - 2.5 defeat of Ayr Belleisle and completing the 100% home record with a 6 - 0 defeat of West Kilbride.

Despite their defeat at Loudoun, West Kilbride lie in second place following home wins by 5.5 - 0.5 over Largs and 4 - 2 against Prestwick St Nicholas, and a good away win by 3.5 - 2.5 at Ayr Belleisle.

In the other match completed last month, Ayr Belleisle had a 4.5 - 1.5 win at Prestwick St Nicholas.
