SCOTTISH BOYS STROKEPLAY - Smith best of Ayrshire contenders

The Scottish Boys Strokeplay Title was won at Craigielaw this week by Linus Vaisanen from Finland who negotiated four rounds of the Craigielaw course in 281 shots, three under par, after rounds of 67, 72, 73 and 69, for a one stroke victory over Conor O'Neil (Pollock).

The best of the Ayrshire challengers was Marc Smith (Troon Welbeck) who enhanced his reputation further, after winning the Niagra Cup at the Area Boys Team Championship last month (pictured right) , with a joint 8th place finish at Craigielaw. Smith finished 7 strokes off the pace on 288 (+4) after rounds of 73, 69, 73 and 73.

Charlie Macneal (Troon Welbeck) was joint 23rd on 296 (+12) with rounds of 75, 73, 73 and 75 whilst defending champion Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) finished tied 30th on 299 (+15) with rounds of 72, 73, 78 and 76.

The four other Ayrshire players in the field failed to make the cut after the first two rounds:-
