SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - 19 Ayrshire players bid for 2010 title

19 young Ayrshire golfers are in the 256 strong field bidding for the 2010 Scottish Boys Championship title over the West Kilbride course from 5th to 10th of April.


The Ayrshire challenge will be led by the 2009 Scottish Boys Strokeplay title holder and boys internationalist Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) - pictured right - who starts his bid for the title in game 6, at 0726 on Monday 5th April against Jordan Shaw of Kingussie

Should McDonald be succesful in round 1, he may face another Ayrshire player in round 2 as Cameron MacLean (West Kilbride) faces Euan Mackay (Craigielaw) in game 5 at 0717 on the Monday, with the winner due to play the winner of McDonald's match.

Another possible Ayrshire second round match is in prospect further down the first quarter draw. 2008 Ayrshire Boys Matchplay runner up Marc Smith (Troon Welbeck) - pictured right - plays John Inness (Kirkcudbright) at 0921 on the Monday in match 19, with the winner facing the winner of match 20, between Kevin Mustard (Elgin) and Patrick Timmons (Troon St. Meddans).

The remaining Ayrshire player in the first quarter is Sean Thorburn (Ayr Belleisle) who faces the challenge of John Scott (East Renfrewshire) in match no 23, teeing off at 0946 on the Monday.

There are four Ayrshire players featured in the second quarter of the draw.

Match 33 (1109) features Callum Gorrie (Kilmarnock Barassie) against Jack Scott (Deeside) whilst Graeme Ritchie (Troon Welbeck) tees off in match 45 at 1245 against Evan Robertson (Inchmarlo).

The last two first round matches in the second quarter feature Ayrshire players, with the prospect of yet another all Ayrshire second round clash.

game 63 (1517) features Ciar Porciani (Ayr Belleisle) against Craig McLay (Bishopbriggs) whilst match 64 (1526) pairs Sean Burgess (Nairn) and Rory McKenzie (Troon Welbeck).

The third quarter of the draw has no fewer than seven Ayrshire players featured.

Ben Gibson (Troon Welbeck) is in match 66 (1541) against Ross Gillan (Torrance House) whilst Josh Nordbo (Largs) - pictured right - faces Ryan Gordon (Alford) in match 68 at 1557 hrs.

The final first round match teeing off on the Monday, match 74 at 1646 hrs, sees Callum Beveridge (Troon Welbeck) against Fergus Sandison (Blairgowrie).

West Of Scotland Boys Matchplay title holder Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) is the first of the Ayrshire players to tee off on the Tuesday, in match 84 at 0757, when he plays Ewan Ferguson (Bearsden) in their first round match.

Also out early, in match 86 at 0813, is Charlie Macneal (Troon Welbeck) - pictured right - who faces Michael Bacigalupo (Longniddry).



Scott Johnston (Prestwick St. Cuthbert) - pictured right - who won his senior Club Championship last year, begins his quest for the national boys title in game 88, at 0829 on the Tuesday, against Ross Proctor (Forres) whilst the final Ayrshire Player in the third quarter, Ross McSherry (Royal Troon) faces the challenge of Alistair Thomson (Elderslie) in match 90, teeing of at 0849.

The fourth and final quarter of the draw features the remaining three Ayrshire players bidding for the title.


Gregor Mackintosh (Girvan) tees of in game 106 at 1101 hrs against Cameron Farrell (Cardross).

The 2009 Ayrshire Boys Matchplay title holder David Wilson (Troon Welbeck) - pictured right - begins his bid for glory at 1213 hrs on the Tuesday, in match number 115, when he takes on James Steven (Kirkhill) in their first round tie.

The final Ayrshire player to tee off in round one of the 2010 championship will be Craig Corrigan (Troon Welbeck) - pictured right - who is scheduled to play off at 1321 hrs in match no 123 against John Douglas (Thornton)
