Ayrshire opened their bid for the 2009 West Of Scotland Inter County Boys League title on Sunday 24th may with a 4.5 - 3.5 win over Lanarkshire at Ballochmyle.
In the leading tie, Marc Smith secured Ayrshire a point, beating A. Welsh by 2 & 1 but the defeat of Craig Telfer by S. Houston by the same margin levelled the scoring.
Fraser Kerr had a commanding 7 & 5 win over A. Steven and a half match between Chris Buter and S. Costello left Ayrshire 2.5 - 1.5 ahead after the under 18 ties.
Jack McDonald and Charlie Macneal recorded 1 hole victories over C. Ross and J. Steven respectively to ensure an overall win for Ayrshire, whilst david Wilson was defeated 2 & 1 by E. Bradley and cameron MacLean lost narrowly by one hole to R. Gillan to complete the match score of Ayrshire 4.5 - Lanarkshire 3.5

The competition, for the Wishart Trophy, is played for throughout the summer months by the county boys teams of Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Stirlingshire and Dumbartonshire. Theams comprise four under 18 players and four under 16's.
Ayrshire's next match is on 21st June against Dumbartonshire at Clober.
