AYRSHIRE MEN'S MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Shanks Vs Broadfoot and Aitken vs. McEwan in semi finals

The quarter finals of the Lomond Property sopnsored Ayrshire Men's Matchplay Championship took place on Tuesday the 7th of May at Rowallan Castle Golf Club, with John Shanks (Irvine) progressing to play Harvey Broadfoot (Royal Troon) and Cameron Aitken (Largs) going through to meet Steven McEwan (Caprington) in Wednesday night's semi finals.


The first quarter final on the course saw Harvey MacDonald (Turnberry) against Harvey Broadfoot (Royal Troon). Broadfoot took the early initiative, building a two hole lead after eight which nhe extended to three holes after thirteen, before running out the winner in the tie by 3&2.




Second match on the course saw Steven McEwan (Caprington) face Tom Loy (Ballochmyle)and it was the former internationalist McEwan who took control with a three hole advantage after eight holes, Loy fought back in the inward nine, reducing the defecit to one hole after thirteen, but McEwan turned things around in his favour over the closing holes to run out the winner of the tie by 4&2.




Cameron Aitken (Largs) was always in control of his tie with Aidan Long (Ayr Belleisle), going four up after eight holes, a lead he extended to five holes after thirteen before closing out the match with a 5&4 win.





The final tie on the course featured 2016 title winner John Shanks (Irvine) against the 2023 Ayrshire Men's Strokeplay Championship winner Colin Goudie (Ayr Belleiisle). Shanks raced to a four hole lead after eight holes but was pegged back to just a two hole advantage after thirteen. Shanks steadied things over the closing hole to run out the winner in thew tie by 3&2.



The semi final line up for Wednesday evening at 5.00 p.m. is :-
