MENS' SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Craig Chalmers through to last sixteen

Craig Chalmers (Western Gailes)

has secured his place in the last sixteen of the Mens' Scottish Amateur Championship, being hosted by the St Andrews Links Trust this year, and is the last remaining Ayrshire hope for the title remaining this seeason.

In the first round Chalmers defeated Greg Andrews (East Kilbride) by 3&1 and then ousted the top seed Ollie Blackadder (Deeside) by two holes in round two, who had defeated Ayrshire's Jamie Hay (Ayr Belleisle) in the opening round by a single hole.

In the opening round on Thursday morning the other Ayrshire player who qualified for the mtchplay rounds, Ruben Lindsay (Turnberry), caused one of the notable victories of the championship, defeating Scotland internationalist Matt Clark (Meldrum House) at the first extra hole, before losing out to Jack McDonald (Roxburghe) by 4&2 in the second round.

On Friday morning, 2nd August, Craig Chalmers faces up to William Bremner (Edzell) for a polace in the quarter finals.
