Ayrshire lead the chase for the David Wishart Trophy in the West of Scotland Inter County Under 18 Boys League after completion of round two of the five match series, following their victory over Dumbartonshire at Ayr Belleisle golf course on Sunday the 23rd of June.
The Ayrshire side raced into an early lead, West Kilbride duo Finlay Watt, in the lead tie, and Dylan Scally, in the anchor tie, both recorded 7&6 wins while Scott Newman (West Kilbride) added a third point with a 6&5 win and Liam Moran (Irvine) and Harris Fleming (Royal Troon), with 5&3 wins, ensured a match win for the home side.
Lyle Vogwell (West Kilbride) added a sixth point from six with a 3&2 win.
With just two ties left on the course, Connor Wills (Royal Troon) secured a 3&1 win, leaving Aidan Hay (Irvine) in the final tie on the course. Hay had been behind since early in the match but managed to square the match at the seventeenth. At the final hole Hay's third shot finished on the front apron of the green while his opponent was pin high and fifteen feet from the pin in three. Needing two putts for any chance of halving his tie, Hay proceeded to hole his 50 foot putt from just off the front of the green, which took on even greater importance when his opponent failed with his effort, giving Hay a single hole victory and completing a match score of 8-0 in favour of Ayrshire.
Ayrshire's next match in the series is away to Glasgow at Ralston GC on Sunday the 28th of July
