SCOTTISH MEN'S AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - Ayrshire overwhelm hosts Argyll & Bute at Rothesay

The Ayrshire team overwhelmed their hosts Argyll & Bute in their opening tie in the qualifying sections for the 2024 Scottish Men's Area Team Championship, played at Rothesay Golf Club on Sunday 5th May.

Prior to the match the hosts were unbeaten in Area Team Championship matches played at Rothesay, but after winning the morning foursomes 2 - 1, the Ayrshire team of harvey broadfoot (Royal Troon), Steven Stamper (Turnberry), Blair Morton (Royal Troon), Aidan Long (Ayr Belleisle), George Robertson (Irvine) and John Shanks (Irvine) took total control of the match in the afternoon, eventually winning all six singles for an 8 - 1 victory overall in the match.

C. Pirie & J. Reynolds beat B. Morton & A. Long by 1 hole

A. Shaw & D. Standalot lost to S. Stamper & H. Broadfoot by 8&7

C. McKirdy & S. Johnston lost to J. Shanks & G. Robertson by 3&1

AFTERNOON SINGLES

A. Shaw lost to H. Broadfoot by 2&1

D. Standalot lost to S. Stamper by 1 hole

J. Reynolds lost to B. Morton by 1 hole

S. Johnston lost to A. Long by 3&2

C. McKirdy lost to G. Robertson by 1 hole

C. Pirie lost to J. Shanks by 2&1

In the other match in the qualifying section Glasgow beat Clackmannanshire by 6.5 - 2.5.

Ayrshire have two home matches remaining in the section, with the next match being against Glasgow on the 9th of June at Loudoun GC.
