Chasing their first title since 2011, and their fifth overall since the Ayrshire Junior Golf league was formed in 1969, the Irvine team were up against four time winners Troon Welbeck, who last took the trophy in 2021.

The lower handicapped Irvine team were giving shots in all six ties, though there were just fifteen given  in total throughout the team.

Playing in the middle order in the team, Aidan Hay put the first point on the board for Irvine with a 7&5 victory, closely followed by Sean Byrne and Mason Chisholm with victories by 6&5 and 4&3 respectively to put Irvine 3-0 up in the match.

The first two ties out on the course were close throughout but it was Ryan Kennedy in the lead tie that secured the wining point for Irvine with a single hole victory over Quintin Dunlop.

In the second tie Euan Stirling posted Troon Welbeck's only success of the final with a single hole win over Liam Moran, whilst in the anchor tie honours were shared, to give Irvine the title and the match win by 4.5 - 1.5.

West Kilbride and Irvine have secured their places in both the Wallace Thornton Trophy and Under 16 Knockout Trophy finals this year.

In the Under 16 event, both clubs recorded 3-1 away wins in the semi finals against Turnberry and east Ayrshire respectively, while in the Wallace Thornton Trophy semi finals West Kilbride crushed their visitors from Turnberry by 4-0 and Irvine edged through on the countback against their visitors from Kilmarnock Barassie by 32-2 on the countback after a 2-2 draw in the match.

Consequently the final of the under 16 Knockout Trophy competition will take place as scheduled at Ayr Belleisle on Sunday the 3rd of September with the Wallace Thornton Trophy final being rearranged to a suitable future date in due course.
