AYRSHIRE HANDICAP LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP - Prestwick St Cuthbert join Caprington in knockout stages

Prestwick St Cuthbert joined Caprington in the knockout stages of the 2022 Handicap League Championship competition in dramatic style this week, as the likely line up for the quarter final matches progress to a conclusion.

In SECTION A, Tam O Shanter and Kilmarnock Barassie are locked together at the top of the table. In the only recent fixture, Ayr Belleisle secured their first points of the season with a 3.5 – 2.5 win away from home at Royal Troon.

In SECTION B, Moorpark have a firm grip at the top, following a 6 – 0 home win over Prestwick St Nicholas and a 4 – 2 win away against Alton. Auchenharvie 88 remain in second place, following a 3.5 – 2.5 win at home to Kilbirnie Place recently.

In SECTION C, Annanhill maintained their position at the top of the table with a 3 – 3 draw away to West Kilbride Whilst Troon St Meddans maintained their challenge with a 5 – 1 win at home to Irvine Ravenspark, who were also heavily defeated recently, by 6 – 0 away to Ardeer.

There was a dramatic finish to SECTION D, with the result of the final fixture determining the qualifiers for the quarter finals.

The final fixture saw Stewarton visiting Loudoun. The Stewarton team required a 6 – 0 win to snatch the automatic qualifying place, whilst Loudoun needed to avoid a defeat by 5 – 1 or worse, to ensure their own qualification at the top of the table. In the event both sides failed in their task, a 5 – 1 win for Stewarton allowing Prestwick St Cuthbert to edge the automatic qualifying place by a single tie on the countback.
