THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Ayrshire challengers blown off course at Nairn

The five Ayrshire players in the 2021 Amateur Championship, being held this week at Nairn, have work to do in the second round in an attempt to qualify for the matchplay stages after their title hopes were blown off course in day one on Monday the 14th of June.

With only 5 players recording scores below par all day, it was the early starters that posted all the lowest scores as the early morning windy conditions worsened considerably during the day as the wind increased.

Host club member Calum Scott leads the way on four under par, after a closing birdie gave him an excellent 67 among the early starters.

The best scores recorded by Ayrshire players were five over par 76's by Ruben Lindsay (Turnberry) and Stuart Easton (Irvine), whilst Jack Broun (Turnberry) and Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie) both had nine over par scores of 80.

Alyx Murray (Prestwick St Nicholas) was one shot further back on 81, ten over par.

The second qualifying round takes place on Tuesday.
