DOC THOM AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT - Michael Smyth leads the way after weekend double points gain

Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) is the early leader in the Ayrshire Order of Merit for the Doc Thom Salver after gaining points in two counting competitions last weekend.

On Saturday 28th of May at the Prestwick St Cuthbert Open, a one under par score of 70 was good enough to share the points for joint first place with Scott brown of the host club, and a scratch 68 the following day in the West Kilbride Open gave Michael Smyth the best scratch score of the day by two strokes and maximum order of merit points.

Stuart Easton (Irvine) presently lies in second place following his excellent display at the recent Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship at Southerness where he finished the 72 hole competition in third place.

Having secured points for joint fifth place at the Prestwick St Cuthbert Open to add to his points gained at the Hillhouse Cup over his home course, Blair Morton (Royal Troon) is in third place in the 2021 Order of Merit at present.

With the Stevenson Trophy at Girvan being cancelled this year, and uncertainty over the playing of the Rowallan Castle Open in 2021 leading to its temporary removal as a counting event this season, the next counting events are the Ayr Seafield Open on Saturday the 5th of June and the 36 hole Belleisle Cup at Ayr Belleisle the following day, Sunday the 6th of June.

Oher counting events in June include the McGilchrist Cup at Ardeer on Saturday the 12th and the Ayrshire Strokeplay Championship on Sunday the 27th.
