A three over par 75 on the opening day at Portmarnock put Walker on the edge of the qualification in 64th place but a second round of 70, one under par, at The Island gave him a two over par total for 36 holes of 145 and moved him up to 36th place.

The other Scots to qualify were:-

3rd - Sandy Scott (Nairn) 140 (71/69)
22nd - Euan McIntosh (Turnhouse) 144 (76/68)
