AYRSHIRE HANDICAP LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP - Several matches played across all four sections in recent days


There has been a flurry of activity recently in the four qualifying sections of the Ayrshire handicap league Championship, with several fixtures being played in all four sections.

In SECTION A, Ballochmyle lead the way following two recent 3.5 – 2.5 home wins over Rowallan Castle and Ayr Dalmilling and a 3 – 3 draw at home to Auchenharvie 88.

Auchenharvie are in clear second place courtesy of another couple of 3 – 3 draws away from home against Alton and Ayr Dalmilling

In other matches played recently, Rowallan Castle gained their first points of the campaign with a 4.5 – 1.5 win at Ayr Dalmilling, Ayr Belleisle beat their visitors from Prestwick St Cuthbert 5 – 1 and St Cuthbert got their first points of the season with a 3 – 3 draw away to Alton.

In SECTION B, Kilbirnie Place and Prestwick St Nicholas are locked together at the top of the table, unbeaten in four, following recent matches.

Three home wins, by 5.5 – 0.5 over Stewarton, 4.5 – 1.5 against Largs Routenburn and 4 – 2 against Ayr Seafield, moved Kilbirnie into the joint top spot with St Nicholas, who maintained their own unbeaten start with a pair of 5 – 1 home wins over Tam O Shanter and Ayr Seafield.

The other match completed recently also resulted in a 5 – 1 home win with Royal Troon beating Tam O Shanter.

In SECTION C, Kilmarnock Barassie opened their title bid with two home wins, by 3.5 – 2.5 over Annanhill and 4 – 2 over their closest challengers Irvine Ravenspark.

In the other match played in the section recently, Troon Merchants beat local rivals Troon Welbeck by 4 – 2.

In SECTION D, Redburn lead the way following two 4 – 2 home wins against West Kilbride and Beith.

Braehead lie in second place courtesy of a narrow 3.5 – 2.5 home win over West Kilbride in their last match.

Moorpark remain unbeaten following a 4.5 – 1.5 home win over Loudoun and a 3 – 3 draw away to Loudoun in their opening two fixtures.

There were home wins in the other two matches played recently, West Kilbride edging out Troon Portland by 3.5 – 2.5 whilst Braehead had a 4 – 2 win over Beith.
