SOUTH AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP - Walker storms into last 32 but Johnston withdraws

Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) stormed into the last 32 of the South African Championship at the King David Mowbray Golf Club on Tuesday 19th February, as he continued his good early season form.


The winner of last weeks African Strokeplay Championship, Walker  continued in the same vein in the 36 hole qualifying event this week, posting an 8 under par 36 hole total of 136, with rounds of 71 & 65, to finishing two off the pace to qualify in fourth place for the matchplay stages.

Fellow Ayrshire player Jim Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) also qualified for the matchplay, finishing in joint nineteenth spot on two under par, after rounds of 70 and 72 for a 142 total.

In the first round of the matchplay, Johnston was forced to withdraw through injury, but Walker stormed into round 2 with a 7 & 6 victory over Tiarnan McLarnon of Massereene Golf Club.

In the second round of matchplay on Wednesday 20th February, Walker will face Deon Germishuys of Strand Golf Club
