HOME INTERNATIONALS - Mixed fortunes for Scotland in ladies, Girls and Boys events.


Ayrshire are represented in all three Scotland Home Internationals teams who are playing this week.

The Ladies’ and Girls’ matches are taking place at Ballybunion in Ireland whilst the boys’ competition is at Royal Dornoch.

The Ladies and girls began their campaigns on Wednesday 8th August with their opponents being Wales.

In the ladies’ match Scotland won the foursomes 2.5 – 0.5 and took the singles 4 – 2 for a 6.5 – 2.5 victory overall.

Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) contributed half a point in the morning foursomes alongside Eilidh Briggs and sat out the afternoon foursomes whilst Hazel MacGarvie (Troon Ladies) , on her full international debut, won both her morning foursomes alongside Chloe Goadby before crushing her opponent by 6&5 in the afternoon singles.

In the other match on the opening day, Ireland beat England 5 – 4.

Scotland play England on Thursday 9th August in their second fixture.

In the girls’ match, Scotland recovered from a 2 – 1 deficit after the foursomes to take the singles by 3.5 – 2.5 to square the match overall.

Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) won her morning foursomes with Hannah Darling but lost her afternoon singles.

In the other girls match on the opening day, England and Ireland also drew 4.5 – 4.5

The girls also face England on day two.

In the Boys Home Internationals at Royal Dornoch, Scotland opened on Tuesday with a heavy defeat to England and fared no better on Wednesday against Ireland.

On Tuesday England ran out winners by 10 – 5 over Scotland whilst Ireland fared even better on Wednesday, recording a 10.5 – 4.5 win over the host nation.
 Ayrshire’s Jack Broun (Ayr Belleisle) lost both his foursomes and singles on the opening day whilst Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle) lost out in his debut in the singles, having sat out the morning foursomes.

On the Wednesday, Scotland were left standing after the opening foursomes where Ireland ran out 5 – 0 winners, with both Ayrshire players selected for the foursomes.

In the afternoon singles, Scotland lost out by 4.5 – 3.5 to give Ireland an overall victory of 10.5 – 4.5.

Both Lindsay and Broun halved their afternoon singles on Wednesday against Ireland.
