AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Royal Troon win Division 4 at first attempt

With less than a week to go in the Ayrshire Scratch league schedule this season, only a handful of fixtures remain to be completed, with many of the promotion, relegation and play off matters being clarified this week, after recent results, with Royal Troon taking the Division 4 title at the first attempt.

In DIVISION 1, only one fixture remains to be played but the result will not affect the championship, play off and relegation matters.

Kilmarnock Barassie ensured their place in Division 1 next season with a hard fought 3 – 3 draw at home to Turnberry in their final match, and the result proved to be significant to Turnberry when Irvine beat Loudoun 6 – 0 in their final match to put Loudoun into the division 1 – 2 play off place.

Defending champions Prestwick St Cuthbert won Division 1 for the third successive season whilst Irvine Ravenspark drop down to Division 2 next season.

In DIVISION 2, Troon Portland marched to the title to gain promotion to Division 1 for the first time next season, whilst Troon St Meddans will drop down to Division 3 next season.

Despite a recent 4 – 2 defeat at Troon Portland, West Kilbride ensured they would not be automatically relegated with a 5 – 1 win over fellow strugglers Troon St Meddans. West Kilbride will however be involved in the division 2 – 3 play off matches to try to keep their place in Division 2 next season.

Ayr Belleisle are presently in the Division 1 – 2 play off place, although defeat in their final match against Troon Welbeck, coupled by a Welbeck win in the other outstanding fixture against Troon St Meddans would change that position.
