AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUE - Title hat trick for Prestwick St Cuthbert

Defending champions Prestwick St Cuthbert have won the Ayrshire Scratch League DIVISION 1, with recent results confirming a historic three successive titles for the club.

In their penultimate fixture, the St Cuthbert team beat Turnberry 4.5 – 1.5 at St Cuthbert and that, coupled with Irvine managing only a 3 – 3 draw at home to Turnberry in their latest fixture, ensured that the St Cuthbert team could not be overtaken at the top of the table.

Kilmarnock Barassie moved closer to safety with a 5 – 1 home win over Irvine Ravenspark, though Turnberry kept their hopes of avoiding the Division 1-2 play offs alive with a 6 – 0 home win over Irvine Ravenspark, a result which also confirmed Ravenspark’s relegation to Division 2 next season.

In DIVISION 2, Troon Portland are edging ever closer to the league title, despite a 5 – 1 loss at Ballochmyle recently. The Portland team, winners of Division 3 last year, countered that setback with a 5 – 1 home win over Ayr Belleisle to move clear at the top of the table with one match still to play.

A win in their final match at home to West Kilbride will give Portland the title although any dropped points will give Troon Welbeck and Ayr Belleisle an outside chance of taking the title, depending on the results of their remaining matches.

Ballochmyle concluded their campaign with a 3 – 3 draw away to Troon St Meddans.

At the foot of the table, things are very close with four of the six teams still uncertain of avoiding automatic relegation or the division 2 – 3 play off place.

In DIVISION 3, Largs are confirmed as champions and will be promoted to Division 2 next season, whilst the five remaining teams are still battling it out for both the promotion play off and relegation places.

Girvan had an important 3.5 – 2.5 away win at Prestwick St Nicholas in their last but one fixture, but then conceded their away match at Ccaprington as they were unable to raise a team for the scheduled fixture date.

Rowallan Castle maintained their hopes of the division 2 – 3 play off place with a 4 – 2 home win over Girvan in their penultimate fixture of the campaign.
