SCOTTISH JUNIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS - Jack Broun & Louise Duncan best for Ayrshire in national championships

Jack Broun (Ayr Belleisle) was the best placed Ayrshire boy in the Scottish Boys Open Championship, held in cold and very testing conditions over the Montrose Medal course, from 4th to 6th April.



Rounds of 74, 75 and 77 gave Broun a total of 226, 13 over par, which secured 15th place in the field and left him seven shots adrift of the winner Patrick Schmuecking from Germany.

Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle) finished in joint 21st place on 228, 15 over par, after rounds of 77, 73 & 78.

The only other Ayrshire player to make the cut for the final round was Ewan Milligan (Kilmarnock Barassie) who finished tied 36th on 233, 20 over par, after rounds of 76, 73 & 84.

Ayrshire players who didn’t make the final round cut were Cameron Johnstone (Troon Welbeck (81, 76) and Alyx Murray (Troon Welbeck (77, 80).

Louise Duncan
In the Scottish Girls Open Championship played over the Monifieth Links, also from 4th to 6th April, the top Ayrshire performer was Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) who finished in joint 13th place on 231, 12 over par, after rounds of 80, 76 & 75. 

Duncan finished a distant 13 shots behind the winner, Ffion Tynan from Wales, who returned the only under par total for 54 holes.

The only other Ayrshire player to make the cut for the final round was Rachel Foster (Prestwick St Nicholas) who subsequently retired before posting a final round score, following opening rounds of 80 & 83.

The only other Ayrshire player in the field was Claire McLaughlin (West Kilbride), who missed the cut after opening rounds of 89 & 79.
