BEITH ARE BACK - Closure decision reversed at historic club

Golf in Ayrshire received a boost this week with the news that the members of the historic Beith Golf Club have decided to reverse the closure decision taken last September.

The club, which is one of the oldest in Ayrshire having been established in 1896, will revert back to a nine hole course, utilising the holes first used when the club moved to its present site in 1974, and closing the nine holes which extended the course in 1995.

Following the closure decision, further meetings were convened and as a result a large proportion of the membership committed to renewing their membership and supporting the continuation of the club, and the decision to take the proposal forward was confirmed at an EGM of the club on Sunday 7th January.

The clubhouse facilities will remain in place, operated by volunteers, and Club Captain Iain Macdonald and the new committee are looking forward to taking the club and members into the 2018 and beyond.

The Ayrshire Golf Association is delighted that a way has been found to take Beith Golf Club forward into the 2018 season, and wishes the committee and members all the best in their efforts.

In addition to the news about Beith GC, the membership of The Ayrshire Golf Association is likely to be further boosted in 2018 with the news that a new club is to be established in the Irvine area. Redburn Golf Club is presently in the process of being formed and will be attached to the muicipal cours at Irvine Ravenspark. The continuation of Beith GC and the introduction of Redburn GC should see the membership of The Association rise to 63 clubs in 2018.
