SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Ayrshire hopes ended as Easton bows out in quarter finals.

Ayrshire hopes of a host county winner in the 2017 Scottish Amateur Championship were dashed on Friday morning, 4th August, when Stuart Easton (Irvine) lost in the quarter finals of the championship at Prestwick GC.

In the quarter finals Easton played Ryan Lumsden (Royal Wimbledon), and was never ahead in the match which he eventually lost 3 & 2.

Lumsden took the lead with a birdie three at the fourth hole and although Easton squared the match with a winning par four at the seventh, he immediately went one behind again when he was unable to match Lumsden's par four at the eighth hole.

A birdie four at the par five twelfth allowed Lumsden to extend his lead to two holes and when Easton was not able to do any better than a bogey five at the fifteenth, Lumsden took the hole with a par four to win the match.

Lumsden went on to win his semi final match on Friday afternoon and plays Sam Locke (Banchory) in the final on Saturday.
