SCOTTISH BOYS & GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPS - Duncan leads the way in girls' event at Drumoig - three boys' qualify for the matchplay stages at Scotscraig

The Scottish Boys and Girls Championships are being competed for under a revised format this year, with the championships running in parallel at Drumoig and Scotscraig.

Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) leads the sixteen qualifiers for the matchplay stages in the girls event, her scores of 69 and 74 for a two under par total of 143 was good enough for a lead of five shots in the qualifying rounds.

Also through to the matchplay is Rachael Foster (Turnberry) whose rounds of 84 and 80 for a 164 total of 19 over par saw her claim the sixteenth and final place, whilst Claire McLaughlin (West Kilbride) failed to qualify after rounds of 82 & 83 for a total of 165 and joint twentieth place.

Though she didn't qualify for the championship matchplay rounds, Clair McLaughlin did book a place in the handicap matchplay competition where she will face Grace Evans (Fleetwood).

In the boys event at Scotscraig, Darren Howie (Peebles) led the qualifiers on 139 whilst three Ayrshire players made the cut of 64 and ties, to progress to the matchplay rounds.

Top performer for Ayrshire was Alyx Murray (Troon Welbeck) with a six over par total of 150, comprising rounds of 77 & 73, which left him tied in thirteenth place.

Also through are Robbie Muir (KIlmarnock Barassie) and Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle).

Muir had rounds of 75 & 76 for a 151 total, which left him tied 19th, whilst Lindsay had rounds of 76 & 76 for a total of 152.

The cut fell at +13 (157)

Ayrshire players who didn't qualify for the matchplay rounds included Ewan Milligan (Kilmarnock Barassie) on 159 (80/79), Jack Broun (Ayr Belleisle) with 160 (78/82) and Sean Addie (Ayr Belleisle) on 163 (78/85).

In the boys matchplay, which takes place from Sunday through to Wednesday, Robbie Muir faces William Ladbrooke (Gullane) in the opening round whilst Ruben Lindsay takes on Calvin Duffton (Aboyne) and Alyx Murray plays Lachlan Reynolds (Hilton Park)
