The lower handicapped Macdonalds gave a number of shots to both their opponents but the teams were well matched, with only three holes in the outward nine being won and the other six halved.

It was the Largs pair who took the lead by winning the fourth hole, but the Doon Valley duo hit back to square the match at the seventh and also take the ninth hole to turn for home one ahead.

The Macdonalds squared the match again at the tenth, only to lose the eleventh and go behind in the match once more.

The Doon Valley team also won the twelfth hole to take a two hole lead in the match, only to see their advantage reduced to one when the Largs team won the thirteenth.

Sloan and Barr remained ahead until the fifteenth when the Macdonald brothers won the hole to square the match once again.

The position remained the same over the next couple of holes and the teams went to the final hole all square.

At the last the Largs team secured a closing par five which ultimately proved enough to win the final hole of the tie and take the trophy and title for 2016 with a narrow one hole win.

At the conclusion of the final the tournament administrator and match referee, John Watt, presented vouchers to all four finalists before handing over the trophy and medals to the 2016 winners, David and iain Macdonald of largs GC.
