WOMAN'S & GIRL'S HOME INTERNATIONALS - Mixed fortunes on day one at Conwyn

The Scotland woman’s team lost their opening match in the 2016 Home Internationals on Wednesday 3rd August at Conwyn, Wales, going down by 6.5 – 2.5 to the host nation.

Ayrshire’s Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies), paired with Clara Young, lost her foursomes tie in the morning by 3 & 2 and was defeated 5 & 3 in her afternoon singles match.

Match Details (Wales names first) :-

C Williams & M Lockett beat H McCook and E Briggs by 3 & 2
B Harries & B Morris beatt C Jaffrey and C Young by 3 & 2
K O'Connor & L Hillier lost to H Munro and J Meek by 3 & 1

C Williams beat J Meek by 2 & 1
M Lockett beat E Briggs by 3 & 2
K O'Connor halved with H McCook
L Hillier beat C Goadby by 4 & 3
B Morris lost to H Munro by 2 holes
B Harries beat C Jaffrey by 5 & 3

Wales 6.5    Scotland    2.5

In the other match on day one, England and Ireland fought out a 4.5 – 4.5 draw.

On Thursday, Scotland face England and Wales play Ireland.

The two Ayrshire players in the Scotland Girls team contributed three points from three as Scotland beat Wales 7 – 2 on the opening day of the Girls’ Home Internationals also played at Conwyn, Wales, on Wednesday 3rd August.

Hazel McGarvie (Troon Ladies) teamed up with Jillian Farrell of Cardross to record a 7 & 5 victory as Scotland took the morning foursomes 2 – 1.

Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) sat out the foursomes in the morning but in the afternoon singles had a two hole victory. Scotland won five of the six singles ties, Hazel McGarvie adding another point with a 3 & 2 win in the anchor singles tie in the afternoon.

L Jones & C Evans-Brand beat J Rankine & J MacKintosh by 3 & 2
N Wainwright & F Vineall lost to H McGarvie & J Farrell by 7 & 5

L Jones beat S McWilliam by 3 & 2
C Evans-Brand lost to J Free by 5 & 3
F Evans lost to L Duncan by 2 holes
C Worby lost to J Rankine by 2 & 1
H Evans lost to J Farrell by 3 & 1
N Wainwright lost to H McGarvie by 3 & 2

In the other match, like in the woman’s competition, England & Ireland fought out a 4.5 – 4.5 draw.

Thursday’s matches are Scotland Vs. England and Ireland Vs. Wales.
