SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Stuart Easton & Malcolm Pennycott carry Ayrshire hopes into the last 32

Ayrshire have two representatives, Stuart Easton & Malcolm Pennycott,  in the last 32 of the 2016 Scottish Mens Amateur Championship at Royal Aberdeen, after all the third round ties were completed on Wednesday 27th July.

Wednesday  morning saw the remaining second round ties completed and Stuart Miller (Kilmarnock Barassie), playing in the first game of the day, beat Neil Melvin (Newmacher) by 2 & 1 to progress.

In the next match, an all Ayrshire tie, Stuart Easton (Irvine) beat Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) by 5 & 3

Sandy Buchanan (Prestwick St Nicholas) bowed out after a 3 & 2 defeat by Andrew Davidson (Charleton) whilst Jim Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) was defeated by David Mitchell (Leven Thistle) by a single hole.

Turnberry member Ben Ferguson, playing from The Vines, Western Australia, lost out in his third round tie with Fintan McKenna (Royal Aberdeen) by 2 & 1.

Stuart Miller and Stuart Easton met in round three on Wednesday afternoon in another all Ayrshire match, which Easton won by 5 & 3 to take his place in the last 32, where he will play Kyle Godsman (Moray).


Malcolm Pennycott



Joining Stuart Easton in the last 32 is Ayrshire county player Malcolm Pennycott. A long standing member of Whiting Bay, Pennycott, who now resides in Edinburgh, entered the championship from Royal Burgess Golfing Society.

A first round win by 3 & 2 over Paul Ferguson (Turnberry), Pennycott was taken to the 21st hole before winning his second round match against Calvin Cheyne (Newmacher) and a 4 & 3 win in his third round tie with S Graham (Carnoustie) saw him into the last 32, where he will play Sandy Scott (Nairn) on Thursday morning.
