AYRSHIRE MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Draw for Western Gailes

The draw for the 2016 Ayrshire Matchplay Championship, to be played at Western Gailes from 2nd to 5th May was announced following the conclusion of the 2016 Ayrshire Strokeplay Championship on Sunday 24th April.




In the opening game, the new Ayrshire Strokeplay Champion Greg Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) plays Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle), a two time winner of the title.

Gavin Nimmo (Troon St Meddans) takes on Colin Gray (Irvine) in the opening round whilst Graeme Gimson (Prestwick St Cuthbert) faces 15 year old Jack Broun (Ayr Belleisle).

Craig Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) faces his Ayrshire team mate John Shanks (Irvine), whilst three times winner and defending champion Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) opens his bid  to retain the Matchplay trophy against club mate Steven Spence (Royal Troon).

James Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) meets Steven Wallace (Prestwick St Cuthbert) in the opening round, with Charlie Macneal (Prestwick) facing the challenge of Alan McLean (Kilbirnie Place)

The remaining tie is an all Kilmarnock Barassie affair, with 2015 finalist Stuart Miller up against his fellow Barassie member Adrian Orton.

Ties are scheduled to commence from 5.00 P.M. onwards on Monday 2nd May.
