AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Chase for titles in all four leagues hots up

As the 2015 competition in the Ayrshire Scratch leagues enters the final five weeks, results of a number of important matches have been reported recently.

All team managers are requested to check the list of fixtures and results received so far, via the link on the left of this page, under the ’Mens Info’ heading. The results listed are the ones received to date, 24th August. If any of the outstanding matches have been played and the result does not appear on the list, then team officials are requested to re send the result to the tournament administrator as soon as possible.

In DIVISION 1, defending champions Irvine look on course to retain their title following a recent 4 – 2 home win over Kilmarnock Barassie. Prestwick St Cuthbert moved into third place in the table with a 5 – 1 home win over Irvine Ravenspark whilst Ballochmyle  almost ensured their place in Division 1 next year with a 3.5 – 2.5 home win over Irvine Ravenspark and a 3 – 3 draw, also at home, against Loudoun.

The only club who can statistically overtake Irvine in the division now are Loudoun, although they would require a titanic effort over their remaining matches, including matches both home and away against the league leaders.

In DIVISION 2, Turnberry are in front following home wins by 5.5 – 0.5 and 4 – 2 over Ardeer and Troon Welbeck respectively, although Ayr Belleisle boosted their title hopes with a narrow 3.5 - 2.5 away win over the league leaders at the beginning of August.

In the only other result reported recently, Troon Welbeck conceded their away match at Ardeer, which had been suspended due to flooding on the course earlier in the month, with three ties still to be completed, due to the non availability of the three players involved to return to complete their ties.

In a tight competition, four of the six teams in the division could still take the title.

In DIVISION 3, Troon St Meddans retain top spot though Prestwick St Nicholas and Caprington could still overtake them in the title race.

Kilbirnie Place moved into joint second place following recent wins, by 4.5 – 1.5 at home to Largs and 3.5 – 2.5 away to New Cumnock.

Largs, with six matches still to play, could hold the key to the title race, having home fixtures outstanding against all three title challengers.

In DIVISION 4, Rowallan Castle completed their fixtures with a concession by Tam O Shanter in their final home fixture, after the Ayr club were unable to raise a team for the agreed fixture date.

The result leaves Rowallan Castle on top of the table and firm favourites for the title, with only tam O Shanter able to match their points total and needing 6 – 0 wins in both their remaining fixtures  away to Moorpark and Ayr Dalmilling to overtake the league leaders on tie difference.

Ayr Dalmilling gave themselves a chance to still clinch the runners up spot with recent home wins by 5 – 1 and 3.5 – 2.5 over Moorpark and league leaders Rowallan Castle respectively, whilst Brunston castle’s home win over Troon Portland by 3.5 – 2.5 kept the competition for second place keen.
