AYRSHIRE BOYS MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Muir take title in all Kilmarnock (Barassie) final

2015 Boys Matchplay Champion
Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie)
Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie) is the 2015 Ayrshire Boys Matchplay Champion, taking the title last week in an all Kilmarnock (Barassie) final, against club mate Sean Cook.

The championship was held at Prestwick Golf Club from Tuesday 11th to Thursday 13th August and featured the eight players who returned the best scratch scores in the Ayrshire Boys Championship at West Kilbride the previous week.

In the opening round Robbie Muir beat Charlie Cameron (Ayr Belleisle) by 2 & 1 to set up a semi final clash with the new Ayrshire Boys Champion and fist qualifier Craig McKenzie (Troon Welbeck), who had beaten Euan Ferguson (Ayr Belleisle) by one hole in the opening round.

In the other half of the draw, defending champion Jack Thomas (Irvine) had a 4 & 3 win over Andrew Gordon (Ayr Belleisle) to reach the semi finals against Sean Cook, who had won at the first extra hole in his opening tie against Blair Fleming (Troon Welbeck)

In the semi finals on Wednesday 12th August, Robbie Muir cruised into the final with a 5 & 4 win over Craig Mckenzie whilst Sean Cook was involved in a titanic struggle with the title holder jack Thomas before eventually winning through to the final with victory at the sixth extra hole.

The final, played in perfect conditions on Thursday 13th August, saw Robbie Muir never behind, although the match remained tight until Muir gained a two hole lead with a birdie at the par 3 eleventh hole. Muir extended his lead to three holes at the 14th when Cook three putted and despite a great recovery from rough and a bunker at 15 for a half in par, Cook could not prevent Robbie Muir closing out the game with a par on the 16th for a 4 & 2 victory.
