SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Shanks, McDonald & Robin carry Ayrshire hopes in the last 32

John Shanks (Irvine), Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) and Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Cuthbert), who formed half of the Ayrshire team who won the Area Team Championship earlier this year, will carry Ayrshire hopes into the last 32 of the Scottish Amateur Championships on Thursday morning, following completion of the third round ties on Wednesday.

Five Ayrshire players won through to the third round on Wednesday afternoon and there was the prospect of an all Ayrshire fourth round tie when John Shanks (Irvine) beat Adam Dunton (McDonald) by 5 & 4. Unfortunately, local hopes of a certain representative in the fifth round were dashed when Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) lost out to David Mitchell (Leven Thistle) at the first extra hole, ending his hopes of facing Shanks in the fourth round.

Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) continued his good form in beating Colin Riddle (Torwoodlee) by 4 & 3 and now plays Fraser Davren (Williamwood) in Thursday mornings fourth round.

The all Ayrshire third round clash between James Bunch (Prestwick) and Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Cuthbert) resulted in a 3&1 win for Stuart Robin, who now faces Colin Martin (Balbirnie Park)

All fourth and fifth round ties are scheduled to be completed on Thursday, with the quarter finals and semi finals on Friday and the 36 hole final on Saturday.
